The major ill effects of eye rubbing

The urge to rub your eyes is natural when tired, or when your eyes feel dry or itchy. In fact, rubbing your eyes enhances tear flow and provides temporary relief. However, when done too often or too hard, it can cause damage to your eyes in a number of ways.

Your hands carry more germs than any other part of your body. When you rub your eye, these germs are easily transferred and can often result in infections like conjunctivitis.

Studies have shown that continuous eye rubbing can also lead to thinning of the cornea, which may lead to keratoconus a condition that compromises vision.

If you have any pre-existing eye conditions like progressive myopia, then rubbing can worsens the condition.

If a foreign body gets stuck in your eye, the natural instinct is to rub and try to remove it. This can easily scratch the cornea

Rubbing your eyes causes tiny blood vessels to break, resulting in blood-shot eyes and those dark circles that everyone is trying to avoid.

Increasing number of people are using different types of computer or otherdisplay device especially smart phones. It is estimated that almost 84% of the world’s population will use these gadgets by the end of 2018.
